Translators must exercise and pilates is an alternative
“Hours sitting on a chair are not healthy”. Mónica Machado has heard this comment from many friends and colleagues for years. However, translation does not get done by itself and there is not always time to exercise. On the other hand, translating from a standing-up desk is not always as productive as it might seem. At Monica Machado Translation Services we have tried to improve our approach to exercise and now we often start the day with some Pilates exercises. “I had the pleasure of being introduced to Pilates by a very knowledgeable lady teacher in Ross on Wye. I loved it and although classes ceased I felt so much better that I started doing the exercises in the morning before turning the computer on. I can feel the difference and I recommend this to all colleagues. I follow the book from Lynne Robinson but there are also many good YouTube videos.”, Mónica Machado said.
Mónica Machado is an English into European Portuguese translator, specialised in Oil and Gas, Mining and Geology, Environment, Hydroelectric Power, Reweables, HSE, Shipping and Business Legal Areas, working for Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries, such as Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe.
