Interesting localisation project this quarter
This quarter we have selected a localisation job as the most interesting. Localisation is rarely easy or quick as it is very important to keep the message adapting it to a new group of readers. This time we were contracted to localise a Brazilian Portuguese Code of Conduct into European Portuguese. The different syntax, grammar and technical jargon in use in these two parts of the World make it necessary to re-write most of the text. One would not think so, as Brazilian and Portuguese people understand each other pretty well and can have a laugh together. However, technical jargon is very different in these two language variants, often making localisation required to prevent any misinterpretations and subsequent incidents or even court cases.
