English Scones
Ingredients:
226 g self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 good shake of salt
15 g sugar
55 g butter
70 ml milk
1 egg
Method:
Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add sugar. Mix to a soft dough with butter, beaten egg and milk. Add sultanas if you prefer.
Turn on to a lightly floured board and knead quickly. Roll to 2 cm high. Cut with a round cutter.
Place on hot baking tray and brush with milk or egg. Bake in hot oven (at 220 ºC) for 12 to 15 minutes.
Serve with jam, fruit or cheese although we prefer it with our own strawberry jam and clotted cream.
