Expansion rate
Expansion rate is the rate translation will expand compared to original. When translating into Portuguese from English expansion rates vary from +15% to +30%. This expansion results from the fact that in Portuguese we use more words to convey the same message. This expansion impacts media where character counts matter. For example if you have an English interview to be translated into Portuguese you will need 15% to 30% more space than in the English version, otherwise some translation text will be cut or the translator will have to resort to transcreation instead.
