Looking for more opportunities at “Business in Portuguese” Conference organised by the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce
Monica Machado Translation Services represented at “Business in Portuguese” Conference in London, 8th June 2016
On 8th June we were at the “Business in Portuguese” conference, organised by the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce at Bloomberg, in central London. It was an excellent opportunity to present Monica Machado Translation Services and make new contacts.
This half day conference discussed business opportunities in Portuguese-speaking countries (Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and East Timor) to potential investors in the City of London.
At the end of each panel, attendees were able to ask questions about current business in countries like Angola, Mozambique and Brazil, and different possible business opportunities.
This was definitely a very interesting event, but in our opinion only too short to discuss such a diverse set of countries. Whilst a very organised conference, the most critical comment is that it failed to address the real challenges faced by both the local population and foreign investors. Issues like the difficulties that local companies are facing to pay foreign suppliers, lack of supplies associated with import challenges and problems for International investors to capitalise on their investments were avoided.
Let us hope that these events will continue but giving more attention to other locations apart from Angola, Mozambique and Brazil, addressing more fundamental day-to-day challenges, and allowing for representation by smaller businesses and entrepreneurs rather than the usual major institutional investors.
