Boiled eggs and soldiers
2 slices of bread
Soft butter to spread
1) Half-fill a small saucepan with water. Put on the hob over a medium heat and bring to the boil. Once boiling, gently lower the eggs into the saucepan. As soon as the water comes back to the boil, set the timer for 3 minutes. This will give you a lovely soft‑boiled egg with a runny yolk, which is perfect for dipping your toast soldiers into.
2) Pop the bread into the toaster and toast until golden and crisp. Put it on a chopping board and spread it with butter, then cut it into long strips (the so-called soldiers) to dip into the egg.
3) When the eggs are done, carefully lift them out of the pan and into egg cups.
4) Cut the top of the eggs off, add salt to taste and dip the soldiers into the yolk.
