Monica Machado, English to Portuguese translator, was elected to the ITI board
Monica Machado was elected to the ITI board, starting on 1st May.
“The Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) is the UK’s only dedicated association for practising translation and interpreting professionals. ITI has over 3000 interpreter and translator members who specialise in more than 100 languages and dialects from around the world. We maintain the ITI directory of qualified professional translators and interpreters, who have been assessed according to our strict admission criteria.”, from ITI
“I am very honoured to be voted in to the ITI board by voting members, and I will work to promote professional translators and interpreters. Translation and interpreting are often poorly considered and many people just assume all translators and interpreters are the same. Often those who require translation services cannot speak the language and therefore cannot assess quality. Thus it is very important to promote the profession, to raise the standard of translators and interpreters and serve clients better. Informing the clients is essential as this is not a regulated profession and many people can work in the field with very few qualifications. It is important that clients know that professionals have to be chosen by qualifications rather than by price, location or turnaround times only. ITI and ITI professionals do an incredible work and I am proud to be part, and, in this instance, represent the Institute.”, Monica Machado said.
